When you’re looking for physical therapy, “Do you take my insurance?” is probably one of your first questions. But understanding what **out-of-network (OON)** means can help you see the bigger picture.

An out-of-network physical therapist doesn’t have a contract with your insurance company. At a cash-based clinic like Competitive Edge, you pay directly for your care. Depending on your plan, you may be eligible for partial reimbursement through out-of-network benefits, but coverage and deductible requirements vary. It’s always worth checking your specific benefits before starting care.

Here's why our patients choose us over other clinics that "take their insurance"

**If you have a high deductible, out-of-network PT may be worth considering.** You may already be paying much of the cost of in-network treatment yourself until you meet your deductible. Ands based on our experience and testimony from previous patients, this can cost you $400-600 for each visit! Comparing the actual price per visit, the individualized attention you receive, and the overall treatment plan your physical therapist provides can help you decide where your money is best spent.

Out-of-network care isn’t automatically cheaper: in-network providers have negotiated rates, and your plan may have a separate out-of-network deductible. The goal is to understand both the cost and the value of your care before making a decision. If the cost of the treatment is the most important factor between deciding in network vs out of network, this is the best place to start.

But our patients usually don't care about the cost, they just want the results.  They want to get back to moving, exercising, and doing the activities they love without pain or restrictions.  That's why at Competitive Edge, our out-of-network model supports **patient-centered, one-on-one care built around your goals.** Every session with us is dedicated to understanding your symptoms, assessing how you move, and progressing a plan that fits your life. We specialize in helping active people who want to lift weights, run, train, and invest in their long-term health. That means looking beyond the painful area to address ALL contributing factors and build the strength, movement control, and capacity that your activities require. Those benefits come from how we deliver care and the freedom the out of network approach gives us to do that.

For someone whose goal is a full return to activity or sport, this approach can be a strong fit. Feeling better is an important milestone, but your rehab should also prepare you for things like heavy squats, longer runs, recreational sports, or keeping up with your kids. Ongoing communication with your physical therapist and coordination when needed helps you understand your progress, ask questions, and adjust your plan along the way.

Choosing physical therapy is an investment in your ability to keep doing what you love. Insurance coverage and cost matter, but so do having a therapist who understands your goals, gives you their full attention, and helps you build a clear path back to activity. At Competitive Edge, we want you to leave with greater strength, confidence, and an understanding of how to keep moving well long after your sessions end!
